a Sandbox SharePoint Site

When we are prototyping or testing Dynamics 365 we will use a Sandbox instance so we can develop and experiment without affecting any Live use or activating a Production Environment until we are ready.

We can do the same in SharePoint by creating a Sandbox Site or Site Collection to use for testing and prototyping.

There are two ways of doing this in SharePoint, so we will start with the simplest first:

Creating a UAT Subsite

We can open SharePoint in Office 365 from our top-left Office Navigator.

This will open the root page of our Tenant’s use of SharePoint.

Here, we can click CREATE SITE to add a new Site to how we use SharePoint.

We can create this as a New Team Site to get us started.

We can specify with the name of CRM or CRM Sandbox to mark this as a Prototyping or Test Site that will work alongside our Dynamics Test Environment.

We would recommend setting the Privacy to Public so that any of our Organisation’s Users can access the new SharePoint Site.

We can then add any additional Owners or Team Members that also want accessing the site – however if the site is being created as Public then we can skip this step.

And voila – this will give us a new blank SharePoint Site to work with.

Before we move into Dynamics, we want to take note of the URL for our new site.

This will be in the format of:

https://*.sharepoint.com/sites/mysitename

We will need this when connecting to Dynamics, which we can do in one of two ways.

(1) We can access Dynamics 365 and then the Advanced Settings to navigate into Document Management and add a new SharePoint Site into the list of SharePoint Sites.

(2) Alternatively we can do this when specify this Site URL when at Step 4 in the DocDrive365 Wizard – as this will then setup the Site for us in Dynamics 365.

Either way will connect Dynamics 365 to work with this new SharePoint for Document Management – and we can start using with DocDrive365 from there.

DocDrive365 will then create the Document Libraries and Folders in this SharePoint Site as needed for good Document Management following the Rules we setup in the DocDrive App.

When we are prototyping or testing Dynamics 365 we will use a Sandbox instance so we can develop and experiment without affecting
