Free Subscriptions or Offers for Remote Working Tools

Tech providers are stepping in to provide free subscriptions of their services to help businesses quickly create new structures for teams working together whilst distributed.

Get Microsoft Teams for 6 Months – this is an offer from Microsoft to help organisations get setup and running with Teams for the duration of the Covid-19 Situation.  Individuals can sign-up for this offer themselves and use Teams from their account, or businesses can sign up through a Microsoft Partner and CSP such as ourselves – this is free and comes with no strings to help organisations that may not be used to remote working to get up to speed using MS Teams.

  • If you work for a business and want to get employees set up on Teams, you can sign up for the six-month Office 365 E1 Trial offer through your Microsoft partner or sales representative.

GoToMeeting for 3 Months - GotoMeeting is another resource we use internally alongside Teams and comes recommended from our team.  This currently has a 3 month free offer for eligible healthcare providers, educational institutions, municipalities, and non-profit organizations as well as any current LogMeIn customer.  This provides organization-wide use of many LogMeIn products for 3 months through the availability of Emergency Remote Work Kits. GoDaddy How-to Covid-19 Help – Useful bank of resources for running business and teams doing changing circumstances.  This includes the #TogetherWeStand forum for questions and concerns that businesses and employees may try to address.

WeTransfer – we are big fans of *not* sending files by email at the best of times, but now doubly so given that Phishing and other email-based attacks are likely to increase alongside the increase in working from home.  If you’ve not got access to a Remote Document Management Platform such as SharePoint or Teams, then make use of WeTransfer for a safer way of sharing files.

Two Weeks In, what we’ve learned – Microsoft have had their teams working remotely for over two weeks now, and this is a guide on their lessons learned for best practise and keeping connected.

Protect your Mental Health (BBC) – we are in a new situation that none of us can be fully prepared for (even with all the memes of developers working in darkened closets!) and so it is completely natural to feel overwhelmed between business-as-usual and the news happening all around us – so take care of yourself both mentally and physically.

Advice

Regardless of technology, the best advice is that we are all in it together during this time.

Everyone will be affected in some way, some small and some more significant.

So it is the best time to be the best version of yourself as a business, help your suppliers, help your clients, help your employees and help your boss as much as possible.
